Honeyandsoy’s custom muesli with Mix My Muesli… and a giveaway!
We all know that Soy loves breakfast. Apart from these weekend breakfasts, we do try to have a healthy and nutritious breakfast on weekdays too. When we’re feeling particularly diligent, we’ve made our own bircher muesli at night, with rolled oats, fruit, nuts, honey, yoghurt and soy milk, ready to be eaten in the morning. Believe me, we’ve spent ages in the supermarket cereal aisle comparing sugar and saturated fat content, so when we found out about a customisable online muesli service that delivers, we were really excited!
Melbourne entrepreneurs Tony and Robert have been best mates since they were 5 years old! Being health conscious, and not being able to find a no-added-sugar, preservative-free muesli mix on the market, they decided to create their own. Initially, they started making muesli mixes for their family and friends, but soon realised that they could bring healthy, non-sugar-laden muesli to the rest of Australia, which is how Mix My Muesli was born. But going a step further, Tony and Robert thought it would be cool to let people choose their own mixes from over 60 ingredients. You do everything online, and then the muesli gets delivered straight to your doorstep! With a flat shipping rate of $1.99 anywhere in Australia, there really isn’t any reason to think that buying off the shelf is any more convenient.
Soy and I felt like kids in a candy store when we were choosing the ingredients for our very own muesli mix online. We sat there together in front of my laptop, going “I want this one!”, “You want how many kinds of nuts?!” and mostly “Ooh, [insert organic fruit/nut e.g. figs]! We’re definitely including that!” We had a bit of discussion over which muesli base we would have, but we really couldn’t pass up on the apple and cinnamon toasted muesli. And we also liked that there were organic and non-organic options for the fruit and nuts, and that the price of each ingredient was listed so it would be easy to keep track of how much you would be spending, because it’s really easy to click on every single ingredient! Tony and Robert have also included a separate section called ‘Naughty Bits’ which do contain added sugar and preservatives, and again, we really like the transparent disclosure so that everyone can choose whether or not they can afford some naughty bits like yoghurt berries, honey roasted peanuts or organic chocolate drops.
So , like I said, Soy and I went a bit crazy over the array of fruit and nuts, and this was our final mix (which cost $15):
Honeyandsoy’s Natural High Mix
Apple & Cinnamon Toasted Muesli
Dried Wild Blueberries (Organic)
Dried Figs (Organic Wild)
Dried Strawberries
Sunflower Kernels (Organic)
Pistachio Kernels
Yoghurt Berry
Something else we found adorable and adds that extra special touch is the fact that you can name your custom mix, and it will be printed on a label, including all the nutrition information on your very own 500g tube that you created!
And why did we name ours honeyandsoy’s natural high? Well, we thought we would be suitably energised in the morning after eating all that goodness, but the best part is that it’s natural! It definitely worked because I am absolutely not a morning person, but got out of bed just to have our very own muesli mix together with Soy. It took a lot of willpower not to pick at it when we came home last night, and waited til this morning to sample it together
The muesli was every bit as lovely as it looks. We could already smell the cinnamon and apple before we opened the special foil-lined tube. And I loved the nuts, dried figs, blueberries and strawberries, and of course the naughty yoghurt berries. I noticed that I didn’t need a huge serve to feel satisfied, so our tube should last for a while.
And the great news is that you too, can be on your way to mixing your own muesli! Thanks to the lovely Tony and Robert, we have a $20 gift voucher for Mix Your Muesli to give away! All you have to do is visit Mix My Muesli then leave us a comment and tell us what ingredients you would love in your customised mix, and what you would name your mix.
This competition is open to Australian residents only and will close on 8th October 2010 at midnight AEDT (yes, it’s almost daylight savings time). Good luck!
