Honeyandsoy’s custom muesli with Mix My Muesli… and a giveaway!

We all know that Soy loves breakfast. Apart from these weekend breakfasts, we do try to have a healthy and nutritious breakfast on weekdays too. When we’re feeling particularly diligent, we’ve made our own bircher muesli at night, with rolled oats, fruit, nuts, honey, yoghurt and soy milk, ready to be eaten in the morning. Believe me, we’ve spent ages in the supermarket cereal aisle comparing sugar and saturated fat content, so when we found out about a customisable online muesli service that delivers, we were really excited!

Melbourne entrepreneurs Tony and Robert have been best mates since they were 5 years old! Being health conscious, and not being able to find a no-added-sugar, preservative-free muesli mix on the market, they decided to create their own. Initially, they started making muesli mixes for their family and friends, but soon realised that they could bring healthy, non-sugar-laden muesli to the rest of Australia, which is how Mix My Muesli was born. But going a step further, Tony and Robert thought it would be cool to let people choose their own mixes from over 60 ingredients.  You do everything online, and then the muesli gets delivered straight to your doorstep! With a flat shipping rate of $1.99 anywhere in Australia, there really isn’t any reason to think that buying off the shelf is any more convenient.

Soy and I felt like kids in a candy store when we were choosing the ingredients for our very own muesli mix online. We sat there together in front of my laptop, going “I want this one!”, “You want how many kinds of nuts?!” and mostly “Ooh, [insert organic fruit/nut e.g. figs]! We’re definitely including that!” We had a bit of discussion over which muesli base we would have, but we really couldn’t pass up on the apple and cinnamon toasted muesli. And we also liked that there were organic and non-organic options for the fruit and nuts, and that the price of each ingredient was listed so it would be easy to keep track of how much you would be spending, because it’s really easy to click on every single ingredient! Tony and Robert have also included a separate section called ‘Naughty Bits’ which do contain added sugar and preservatives, and again, we really like the transparent disclosure so that everyone can choose whether or not they can afford some naughty bits like yoghurt berries, honey roasted peanuts or organic chocolate drops.

So , like I said, Soy and I went a bit crazy over the array of fruit and nuts, and this was our final mix (which cost $15):

Honeyandsoy’s Natural High Mix

Apple & Cinnamon Toasted Muesli
Dried Wild Blueberries (Organic)
Dried Figs (Organic Wild)
Dried Strawberries
Sunflower Kernels (Organic)
Pistachio Kernels
Yoghurt Berry

Something else we found adorable and adds that extra special touch is the fact that you can name your custom mix, and it will be printed on a label, including all the nutrition information on your very own 500g tube that you created!

And why did we name ours honeyandsoy’s natural high? Well, we thought we would be suitably energised in the morning after eating all that goodness, but the best part is that it’s natural! It definitely worked because I am absolutely not a morning person, but got out of bed just to have our very own muesli mix together with Soy. It took a lot of willpower not to pick at it when we came home last night, and waited til this morning to sample it together :)

The muesli was every bit as lovely as it looks. We could already smell the cinnamon and apple before we opened the special foil-lined tube. And I loved the nuts, dried figs, blueberries and strawberries, and of course the naughty yoghurt berries. I noticed that I didn’t need a huge serve to feel satisfied, so our tube should last for a while.

And the great news is that you too, can be on your way to mixing your own muesli! Thanks to the lovely Tony and Robert, we have a $20 gift voucher for Mix Your Muesli to give away! All you have to do is visit Mix My Muesli then leave us a comment and tell us what ingredients you would love in your customised mix, and what you would name your mix.

This competition is open to Australian residents only and will close on 8th October 2010 at midnight AEDT (yes, it’s almost daylight savings time). Good luck!

I would love my customized muesli to have:

    1. Oats for the Base
    2. Organic Dried Cranberries, Dried Figs, Dried Goji Berries, Dried Wild Blueberries and Dried Strawberries for Fruits
    3. Linseed and Psyllium Husk for the Grains, Seeds and Nuts bit.

And because of the exotic contents in my choice of muesli mix, low fat content (2g of fat) and low calorific content (675kj) per serving size (45g) compared to most muesli brands, I will name my muesli: Beautiful Bliss.

What a delicious idea Honey and Soy!!! I would absolutely love some for when my brother comes over on holiday from the UK next month!

The ingredients I would have in my customised mix are: Summer In The Sun base (to show him how lovely Australia is in the sun),
Dried Jumbo Golden Raisins, Dried Pears, Dried Pineapple, Macadamia Halves, Psyllium Husk (for good digestion of course!), Pistachio Kernels, and Vanilla Peanuts for a bit of naughty.
And I would call it: “Loll & Dude’s special holiday muesli mix” (my brother’s nickname is Dude)

Thanks for showcasing such a wonderful product Honey and Soy!

That’s a good one, Loll! Such a summery sounding mix, too, just in time for our lovely Aussie summers. I’m still stuck on “don’t be a big girl’s blouse!!!” hahaha love it! You must excuse me, it’s been a long day ;)

What a cool idea! I had a look and would choose the gluten free base-of course, blueberries, strawberries, cranberries, pecans, flaxseeds, and honey roasted peanuts for indulgence. I would call it The InTolerant Chef’s Very Tolerable Wakeup Call. It sounds much nicer than my usual tin of tuna I eat for brekky as the gluten free muslei on the shelves at supermarkets is definately InTolerable!

Oh such a delicious idea! I didn’t realise you could mix your own muesli. that’s absolutely brilliant! I won’t enter the competition however, I don’t really eat muesli all that often. =)

O, I want! I am going to go check out Mix My Muesli, ’cause that sounds pretty amazing.

  • Lorraine @ Not Quite Nigella

I tried the Muesli Mixer bespoke muesli (there seems to be a bit of a mini explosion in the bespoke muesli department!) and like you, I had so much fun adding bits and pieces in! Mine ended up quite expensive too lol

Thanks Gera! Muesli is good when one is trying to be healthy, so it’s good to find natural low-sugar ones!

Thank u! Sometimes my jaw aches from all the chewing tho.. :D

  • http://www.honeyandsoy.com honeyandsoy

I’m so glad this muesli is tolerable for you! I looove the name of your mix! haha! I can’t think of any tolerable wake up call, personally… I’m thinking of annoying alarms!

  • http://www.honeyandsoy.com honeyandsoy

Yeah, we didn’t either, and all online too! ;)

  • http://www.honeyandsoy.com honeyandsoy

Glad you like the sound of it! Had it for brekkie again today… don’t think it’s going to last as long as I initially thought… hehe

  • http://www.honeyandsoy.com honeyandsoy

Oh! is there really an explosion? This is the first bespoke muesli we’ve heard of or tried. You know funnily enough, Soy had actually thought of making her own bespoke muesli, maybe 2 yrs ago?

Just stumbled on your blog, very nice! I’ve just placed my first order of Mix-My-Muesli. On a base of Apple/Cinnamon muesli with dried mango, cherries, banana, blueberries, macadamias halves, walnuts, sunflower kernels & of course something naughty: yoghurt berry. I’ve called mine “Nutty Fruity Muesli”.

I’d love to try this customised blend.

My perfect mix would be the gluten free with cinnamon base, with dried organic blueberries, sultanas and apricots, linseed, amaranth and roasted almonds. Yummo!

  • Romanjosie

Just went on mixmymuesli website and created my own muesli…yum, yum can’t wait until it arrives. Having just had a baby I’m working very hard to get my pre-baby body back so I created a high protein mix with all the good seeds- Sunflower, linseed, seame, pepita and chia. Also put in power fruits such as apple, blueberries, prunes and figs. This mix is sure to give me loads of energy to keep me going at the gym and at home with a new baby and what other name could a give a mix like this but “BYE-BYE BABY BUMPS”

Thanks so very much Honey and Soy. I just got my breakfast deliciousness and would recommend it to everyone. I’m even getting some for my hard-to-buy-for mum for Christmas, and my daughters each want their own personalised mixes too! Yumm…
